Diet Food

If I told you I had an egg on toast with half a small yoghurt and some fruit for breakfast, that'd sound like a healthy breakfast, right?

But not too excited.

My real breakfast was the same thing but in a much nicer form.  French toast with stewed nectarines and greek yoghurt.  Of all the breakfasts I've ever made in my life, this one was the best.

Sorry, no photos.  I ate it all too fast.

Oh and the nectarines - $1 for a supermarket bag full of them at the markets.  Even after I cut out the bad bits, I had a big saucepan full of yummy goodness!

  1. Nope, actually not good for you.
Western breakfasts are amongst the unhealthiest on the planet. I avoid them like the plague.
Mixing fruit with anything isn't good.
    Toast? Ick.
    Carbs and egg. Ick.
    Sorry. Big fail.

  2. p.s Eating the yogurt as part of this meal was also not good for you.
Like milk, the yogurt will have zapped any goodness in the fruit you ate, and any goodness in the egg.
This is why people shouldn't down a big glass of milk with dinner. Cos it screws with the good stuff in the rest of the food.
But they do. People. They still do. They think milk is good for them.
And they wonder why they have health problems.
    You can shoot me now.

  3. It was pretty damn good to me :)

A lot of people are anti-fruit atm. One of my sisters is very on the bandwagon but I'm pro-fruit! Except with meat, that's just wrong.

    1. Anti-fruit = load of rubbish. Bloody awesome breakfast, as long as you didn't add sugar... ;o)

Get some vanilla whey and make MY French toast (it's on the blog). I use grainy bread or fruit bread, top it with blueberries, strawberries or banana (eek! evil fruit!) and natural yoghurt. And maybe just a little bit of agave syrup.

    2. It was a damn awesome breakfast :)

I'm reluctant to buy whey powder because I'm trying to not spend money but I think I might try to add more protein to my diet via tofu etc because I don't eat a lot of meat. I have tuna sitting on my desk at work but so far I've just looked at it.

  4. Apples are good. The best kind of fruit because you can add them to curries and they won't play with your insides like eating citrus fruit with a meal does.
Are you on a diet then?
I'm also trying to lose some weight.
Too many beers and lots of wine this past 10 months and zip exercise.
May I recommend Chia Seeds for your breakfast.
Add them to yogurt, if you so wish, but I have them in juice.
Full of protein, healthier protein than what's in eggs.
Adding spices such as cumin, turmeric and cayenne to your savoury dishes also speeds up the metabolism.

    1. Trying to lose it but I'm finding that it's much easier earlier in the week then goes downhill as I get more tired later in the week. I think this week will be okay because we've stocked up on good foods and I might do a big cookup this weekend.

  5. Re: fruit with meat and so on, when I go to Thailand and have a kitchen at my disposal, I love making curries using fresh mango.
    Yum yum yum.

    1. Yeah actually now I think about it, some fruit with meat is okay. Like lemon, unless it's that sickly sweet lemon chicken sauce.

  6. p.s then I'll piss off....fruit is great for you...you just have to eat it 'alone', not mix it with other food groups, unless it's apples, which are mix-friendly.

Okes, I'll leave your thread in peace and get back to my interesting life in My Room.

  7. Toast (carb) and any sugar would be a no no...in my diet anyway. ;)
